Learning Outcomes
Certification in Sterile Processing will provide the skills required for you to begin a professional career in healthcare, which include the ability to:
- Apply basic anatomy, physiology, and microbiology to the operative patient.
- Apply the principles of aseptic technique and the technologist's responsibility in demonstration and follow through of strict aseptic technique in an operative setting.
- Prepare instrumentation, supplies, and equipment to be used in the operating room and use them appropriately.
- Apply the different types of sterilization and know when to utilize each appropriately and safely.
- Functions actively as a contributing member of a health care team by completing the specific responsibilities of the surgical technologist in operative routine procedures.
- Learn and practice patient safety.
- Develop, demonstrate, and model professional conduct appropriate to the profession.
- Understand and apply legal implications concerning the patient and personnel in the operating arena.
- Adapt his or her knowledge and skills to the care of the intraoperative patient.
- Is eligible to sit for the national certification examination offered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
