General Program FAQs

  1. IS THE PROGRAM ACCREDITED?
    • The program is approved by the Washington State Board of Nursing (WABON) and is nationally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
  2. AT WHAT TIMES ARE CLASSES OFFERED?
    • The Associate Degree in Nursing program is managed through Seattle Central College, and utilizes North Seattle College and South Seattle College as satellite campuses.   3. WHEN ARE CLASSES HELD?
    • Classes are held in person for theory and labs and Clinical Simulation on Campus Monday-Friday.  Clinical experiences may be during the day, evenings, or weekends depending on the quarter. Theory classes are not available during the evening.
  4. CAN THE PROGRAM BE TAKEN PART-TIME? DO YOU OFFER AN ACCELERATED CURRICULUM?
    • No. This is a full-time program only. We do not offer an accelerated curriculum.
  5. WHAT IS THE PROGRAM COST?
  6.  IS THIS PROGRAM ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID?
    • Yes. Students enrolled in the ADN program may apply for FAFSA/WAFSA. Additional financial aid resources may be obtained through Workforce Services.
  7. WHAT DOES ADN DTA/MRP MEAN?
    • The Associate Degree in Nursing Program (ADN) offers an Associate in Nursing Direct Transfer Agreement/Major Related Program (ADN DTA/MRP). This program contains a common curriculum that allows students to streamline their credits into a RN-BSN program for UW Tacoma, UW Bothell, WSU
  8. ARE THERE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SPECIALIZATION WITHIN THE NURSING PROGRAM?
    • The RN curriculum is to meet the standard to sit for the RN Licensure Exam called NCLEX.  The areas studied are Nursing Fundamentals, Medical Surgical Nursing, Pediatrics, Maternal/Child Health, and Behavioral Health.
  9. DO I AUTOMATICALLY BECOME A REGISTERED NURSE (RN) UPON SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETING THE PROGRAM?
    • Our program prepares students and makes them eligible to sit for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Examination NCLEX-RN. Graduates must apply for a license as a registered nurse in Washington State. For more information about applying for the license, click here.

ADN Program Application FAQs

  1. WHEN IS THE APPLICATION WINDOW?
    • Students are admitted twice a year into the ADN program. Students seeking to start in September (during the fall quarter), can expect applications to be due between April 1 and April 30. Students seeking to start in January (during the winter quarter) can expect applications to be due between July 21 and August 21.
  2. WHERE DO I APPLY?
  3. HOW COMPETITIVE IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS? 
    • We employ a selective admissions process with up to 90 applicants admitted.  Students must meet all criteria at the time of application. Students with complete applications are given priority acceptance.
  4. DOES THE ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM APPLICATION HAVE A FEE?
    • At this time, applications do not require a payment fee.
  5. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH (DOH) TO ISSUE ME AN ACTIVE NURSE ASSISTANT LICENSE. CAN I STILL APPLY EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A DELAY?
    • Applicants may still apply to the program. However, they must upload a separate statement stating where they successfully completed their Nursing Assistant course, the date of completion, and the date they took the DOH licensing exam. Once they obtain their Certified Nursing Assistant license, they must email adn.central@seattlecolleges.edu notifying them their licensure number and expiration date.
  6. DO YOU ACCEPT A NURSING ASSISTANT REGISTERED CERTIFICATION INSTEAD OF A NURSING ASSISTANT CERTIFIED LICENSE?
    • No.
  7. I CURRENTLY AM A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL AND WORK AS A MEDICAL ASSISTANT/EMT/PHLEBOTOMIST. DO I STILL NEED TO HAVE A NURSE ASSISTANT CERTIFICATE TO APPLY TO THE ADN PROGRAM?
    • The answer is determined on a case-by-case basis by our Dean of Nursing. Applicants are encouraged to send us an email to adn.central@seattlecolleges.edu explaining their circumstances.
  8. DO I NEED TO COMPLETE A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK PRIOR TO APPLYING TO THE ADN PROGRAM?
    • No. Applicants must sign and upload a criminal disclosure form.
  9. DO I NEED TO BE FULLY VACCINATED PRIOR TO APPLYING TO THE PROGRAM?
    • No. Students are highly encouraged to find their immunization records and begin updating them as needed. Vaccination information is provided during our Informational Sessions. Students will receive detailed instructions about all the mandatory immunization requirements once they are accepted into the program.
  10. DO YOU HONOR RELIGIOUS OR PERSONAL EXEMPTIONS AGAINST VACCINATIONS?
    • Our partnering clinical sites mandate that all students be vaccinated before entering their clinical sites. Our students are guests at the clinical sites and must abide by the rules set by them. Students who are unable to submit all immunization requirements may not be able to graduate from the program.
  11. I APPLIED! WHEN WILL I GET NOTIFIED IF I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED?
    • Applicants are emailed approximately 1.5 months after the application deadline.

ADN Program Prerequisites FAQs

  1. DO I NEED TO SUBMIT MY TRANSCRIPTS FOR EVALUATION IF I ATTENDED NORTH SEATTLE COLLEGE OR SOUTH SEATTLE COLLEGE?
    • Yes. You will need to submit a transcript evaluation request for courses taken at North or South Seattle College to transfer them into Central for the ADN program.
  2. FROM WHICH INSTITUTIONS DOES SEATTLE COLLEGES ACCEPT CREDITS? DO YOU ACCEPT COURSES TAKEN AT ONLINE PROGRAMS?
    • We accept credits in transfer from other regionally accredited colleges or universities, recognized international colleges or universities, or post–secondary institutions. Students can check the accreditation status for a college or university here: https://www.ed.gov/accreditation
  3. I ENROLLED IN A PREREQUISITE CLASS TWICE TO IMPROVE MY GRADE. HOW WILL YOU DETERMINE WHICH GRADE TO CONSIDER? WILL YOU AVERAGE THEM, OR IS THERE ANOTHER METHOD? DOES RETAKING A CLASS AFFECT MY OVERALL SCORE NEGATIVELY?
    • We will count the highest grade. This does not affect your overall score negatively. Prerequisite courses may only be repeated twice (3 attempts in total) within the last 5 years.
  4. I TOOK MY PREREQUISITES MORE THAN 5 YEARS AGO AND OBTAINED A GRADE HIGHER THAN 2.5 GPA. DO I HAVE TO RETAKE THE COURSES? 
    • No. We do not impose expiration dates on your prerequisite courses. All courses must be transferred with a Transcript Evaluation form and accepted.
  5. DO YOU ACCEPT COURSES WITH LAB COMPONENTS THAT WERE TAKEN ONLINE?
    • Lab components are expected to be taken in person. Evidence-based practice shows that nursing students who have taken in-person labs are more successful in transitioning into the ADN program.
  6. I TOOK AP COURSES WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL. ARE THOSE COURSES ACCEPTED AS VALID SUBSTITUTES
  7. CAN I SUBMIT MY TRANSCRIPTS AT THE SAME TIME I APPLY TO THE ADN PROGRAM?
    • No. All transcripts must be evaluated prior to applying if you have taken classes outside of Seattle Central College. This includes courses taken at North Seattle College or South Seattle College. Official transcripts must be submitted to Seattle Central College’s Registration and Records along with a Incoming Transcript Evaluation Request Form.
  8. DO I NEED TO SUBMIT MY OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS IF I AM TRANSFERRING FROM NORTH SEATTLE COLLEGE OR SOUTH SEATTLE COLLEGE?
    • You do not need to submit official transcripts. We will accept unofficial transcripts along with the transcript evaluation form.
